Face Amount (face Value)

The value of a bond, note or other security as printed on the document. Throughout the life of a security, its market price will fluctuate but at maturity the face amount is payable. It can also refer to the value denominated on a coin, banknote or stamp etc. and the amount to be paid out on an insurance policy on death or maturity.
