Indexation

A technique to adjust income payments by means of a price index to keep up the purchasing power of the public after inflation. Indexation is also an allowance that reduces the taxable gain on an investment by increasing its base cost. It does this by applying a percentage uplift to the acquisition cost which increases according to the length of time that the investment has been held and the rates of inflation rates during those years.
