Scrip Issue

A free issue of shares to shareholders, in proportion to their existing holdings, prompted when a company transfers money from its reserves to permanent capital. Also known as a capitalisation issue, scrip issues are born out of an accounting quirk. If the company has been trading profitably for some time, the reserves can far outweigh the ordinary share capital of the company as a proportion of total shareholders funds.
