Tax Allowances

Tax allowances are concessions by the government that can be used to reduce a persons taxable income. The main allowance for UK taxpayers is the personal allowance, which is an amount of income that is tax-free, £5,225 in the tax year 2007-08. Others include age-related allowances and the blind persons allowance.
